The Nationality is
Peruvian.  There are ethnic groups that include Indigenous (45%), mixed background ("mestizo") (37%), European (15%), African, Japanese, Chinese, and other (3%). Population (2008): 28.7 million.  Approximately 30% of the population lives in the Lima/Callao  metropolitan area where we worked during the mission.  The major religion is Roman Catholic at 81% and other faiths at 10%.   The principal language is Spanish. Quechua, Aymara and other indigenous languages also have official status.    Education is compulsory through the 11th grade    School attendance is 92% for ages 6-11, and 66% for ages 12-16.  The literacy is 96% in urban areas and 80% in rural areas.   Life expectancy (2007) is 68.33 years for males; and 72.04 years for females.
