Clinics and Medical Teams
Working for the Great Physician
Matthew 9:12
When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

We were divided into spiritual and logistics teams,
and medical, wound, optometry, dental and pharmacy clinics.

The A Team always would  go in advance of us and set up
the registration tables, our medical supplies, and our
sleeping tents,  an enoromous logistical task

The A team sets up for us
Nursing Staff
We moved to work in five diffferent locations,
two of which we had not served before
     Moe and Mitral
I teamed with Mitral, a Zambia Nurse,
who was also a translator. She was
a great person with whom to work.
    mission Staff
We were able to conduct our clinics
in school buildings, which was a big
help during the mission
Registration Tables
The Registration is well organized
Registration Process
People are directed or taken to clinics.
I began to count the number of people I saw...in a half
day clinic I saw 97 and first three quarters day of
the second clinic I saw 154 and after that I decided
I was not going to count anymore..
In our five village clinics during the Mission we saw:
           Medical  12,661
          Dental      1,766
          Optical     2,718
          Total:     17,148
In our medical clinics, patients, both adult and children, received:
1.  De-worming medication,
       2.  One month supply of vitamins,
            3.  Medicine for any acute condition,
            4.  One month supply of medication
for any chronic condition, such as,
             hypertension, asthma, etc.
The logistics undertaking for the medical mission is awesome.  With this being the 11th year, the organizers have it down to a science.  Our American and Canadian team of 120 were joined by about 120 Zambians.   The Zambians provided doctors, nurses, midwives, interpreters, preachers, Bible class teachers and cooks.

My hero on the Zambia Medical Team is Star Ferguson.  She     spends the entire calendar year acquiring medications for the Zambia medical mission.  She writes grants, and networks with charitable organizations.  She turned $65K into $2.5M worth of medications for our 11th  Zambia Medical Mission.  That gave us a truly large number of treatment options.
I only remember running out of a few items: ear wax removal, albuterol inhalers, and eye wetting agents.   Perhaps more of these could be acquired for next year.  We only
used about 1/3 of the medications.  The remaining 2/3s were divided among our three free clinics in Zambia.
Used eyeglasses from members of churches of Christ at  Emporia, KS, and Fayetteville, GA, helped meet many needs.   And members at Fayetteville also provided a significant supply of aspirin, pain medicine and vitamins to take with me.
People Wait
Wherever we set up our clinic, people were there in masses for both medical care and spiritual enrichment.
"I looked and behold, I saw a great multitude."
